Deferred Intake in the Bachelor Programme: “It’s never too late to change direction!”

24 Nov 2025

Ronan Moreau and Noa Hipp are International Bachelor students on the Grand Paris Sud campus. They joined Icam in January 2025 as part of the first deferred intake launched on the Grand Paris Sud and Nantes campuses. Exactly one year ago, both were going through a period of questioning and doubt in their studies — something many students may be experiencing right now. This is why they wanted to share their story.

Ronan earned his baccalauréat in June 2024 and enrolled in a computer engineering school. Noa completed his baccalauréat in 2023 and continued his studies at Sorbonne University, at the Faculty of Science and Engineering. After a first year in Materials Science, he began his second year in Geosciences–Planetology in September 2024. But for both of them, the conclusion was the same: their studies did not suit them.

Deferred intake: a second chance arriving at just the right time

“ I had been questioning my path for a while when, in November, an email arrived from Icam announcing the opening of the deferred intake — at exactly the right moment,” Ronan recalls. “I had discovered the school during a student fair when I was researching Parcoursup. I then got back in touch with a former classmate who had joined Icam, and he put me in contact with Bachelor students in B1. I spoke with them to better understand the programme, and their feedback was extremely positive!”

“I also knew a student at Icam who told me about its teaching method and its hands-on, practice-oriented approach. That’s exactly what I was looking for, and it appealed to me,” says Noa. “This deferred intake was truly a second chance, and it saved my year! The Lieusaint campus, the environment, the teaching methods, the projects — I like everything. I feel that what I do has meaning.”

Both are absolutely certain they made the right decision. “And we integrated very well into the class, even though we joined mid-year,” Ronan and Noa add.

Through their testimonial, they want to send a message to students who are disappointed with their current programme, feel they made the wrong choice, or are questioning their path:

“With this deferred intake, you don’t lose time, and you don’t have to wait until the next academic year. It’s even an advantage to have started another course, because you’ve gained knowledge that will help you in the Bachelor at Icam. We — all of us — are in charge of our own lives, and it is never too late to change direction!”

The second deferred intake starts on 12 January 2026: a must-read!
